Abstract:
This software will be the result of a project (still in progress) to develop software for performing elaborate searches and user-defined analyses of large musical databases--from individualpieces to libraries of hundreds of pieces. These tools will initially address the extensive on-line score library of the Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities (CCARH), but will eventually address databases developed by individual users.

Established in 1998 as a joint venture of Indiana University's School of Music and the Office of Research and the University Graduate School, the Center for the history of Music Theory and Literature (CHMTL) brings together various actvities, publications (both electronic and conventional), and projects centered at the School of Music at Indiana University. In addition to its current activites, CHMTL anticipates expansion with additional full-text databases, publications, conferences, and occasional fellowships for visiting scholars.

E-Studio is a teaching Studio Management databse application. E-Studio is designed to help private music instructors track their students, lessons, performances, and expenses. Reports can be generated with ease to show studio statistics as well as unpaid lessons and performances. E-Studio includes a Personal Secretary module that politely asls for information about past lessons and performances that the user has not commented on. When the Personal Secretary has learned whether the event took place or not, and whether or not payment was receives, it will not ask about that event again. This databse includes 10,000 monophonic transcriptions in Essen Associative Code (ESAC) including transcriptions of song corpora from diverse German-speaking lands (eg., Austria, Bohemia, Upper and Lower Saxony, the Netherlands). and from the early Liederbucher. The musical encoding are encapsulated within an ASCII text database that can be processes using the DOS relational database program AskSam. All materials are readable as standard text files.
Contents of this offering include the original corpus of 10,000 pieces together with the DOS program ana, which performs queries on the encoded musical information to provide inventories, pitch descriptions, melodic reductions, and perspectives on form.

Abstract:
The result of over a year of work by project staff and Duke University stuents, the web site includes digital images of over 16,000 pages of sheet music from 3042 pieces published in the United States between 1850-1920.
The selection presents a significant perspective on American History and culture. The sheet music chosen for digital reproduction represents a wide ariety of music types including bel canto, minstrel songs, protest songs, sentimental songs, patriotic an politcal songs, plantation songs, Civil War Songs, sprituals, dance music, songs from vaudeville and musicals, "Tin Pan Alley" songs, and songs from World War I. The collection is particularly strong in antebellum Southern Music, Confederate imprints, and Civil War Songs. Also included are piano music of marches, variations, opera excerpts, and dance music, including waltzes, quadrilles, polkas.
A rich Encoded Archival Description (EAD) databse of information about the music is searchable and browsable in a variety of ways, and the site includes background information about the music itself as well as the social, cultural, and politcal events that shaped the songs an that are depicted in the pieces. Also included is technical information helpful to those considering or planning digital imaging projects.
Will become part of the Library of Congress' American Memory site early in 1999.

IIMP Full Text is the next-level music information resource on the World Wide Web. It combines the power of searching thesaurus-controlled indexing of Chadwyck-Healey's International Index to Music Periodicals with the added depth of full-text searching. It will also deleiver the full text of retrieved articles from many important music journals at the click of a mouse.
The inital release will consist of all IIMP plus the full text of current (1996 forward) articles from 40 of the most important music journals, as prioritized by the IIMP advisory board, that the database can either host or link to. It also contains retrospective records to 1874.

the IIPA is a comprehensive index to the journal literature of the various genres of the performing arts, searchable together for the first time in the same electronic database. IIPA is a dynamic bibliographic resouce for the performing arts information and research community.
IIPA will not only provide access to hundreds of performing arts periodicals from 1998 nwards, it will provide access to many selected titls retrospectively - some all the way back to their inception. The initial release will contain more than 25,000 records. IIPA will grow to cover 130,000 records by April 1999.

Abstract:
The CCARH databases of musical information, now collectively called MuseData, have been under development since 1984. Many hundreds of works for the standard repertory have been encoded in the CCenter's system of representation. This is a highly detailed specification intended to support applications in notation, sound generation and analysis. Files are edited to the highest standards.
MuseData files are now being translated to the Kern format used by the Humdrum Toolkit and to an enriched MIDI specification that we call MIDI+. MIDI+ files include general MIDI instrument specifications, reinforced parts, realized ornaments, and other refinements to improve the listening experience. All rhythmic information is quantized (metronomic).
