Pre-Conference Workshop in 2007:

Salt Lake image

following a successful inaugural pre-conference 'technology workshop' in San Antonio (2006) on the topic of "Internet2 and videoconferencing," another pre-conference workshop was carried out in Salt Lake City. The theme for this workshop focused on the use of learning management systems (LMS) in music and the use of social computer tools. Some well-known examples of LMS include: Blackboard, WebCT, D2L, Angel, Sakai and Moodle.

the pre-conference boot camp emphasized innovative instructional strategies for online music teaching and creative uses of media (music files, images, video, and animation) within learning management systems. Additionally, social computing tools like podcasting, blogs, Second Life and the like will be featured as alternative LMS delivery systems. The keynote speaker for the pre-conference was Dr. Jonathon Richter, a key member of the University of Oregon research staff developing a virtual campus in Second Life. The title of his talk was "Twenty-first Century Learning Management: Breathing 'Second Life' into Music Education." With generous support from vendors, the registration fee, which included dinner, was greatly reduced from last year's pre-conference.
